A New Kia Mexico Plant? Sources Say it’s Going to Happen

A recent Automotive News article says a new Kia Mexico plant is in the works. The article sites two “in-the-know” sources who say the automaker is set to break ground on a new assembly plant in Monterrey in the near future.

This comes as a mild surprise to some. Approximately two years ago, Hyundai-Kia Chariman Chung Mong-Koo put a temporary halt to expansion after watching the growing pains its rival Toyota went through when it attempted to grow too fast during the 2000s.

Nielsen, the National Automotive Dealers Association (NADA) and the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) have recently released some interesting radio advertising numbers that are worth looking at closely.

(1) Radio reaches 68% of US consumers age 12-plus on any given day. That means nearly 70% of Americans who can make some sort of purchase are listening to the radio on the way to work or school, in their homes, at work, and at a wealth of other locations. Isn’t this a great media source for an automotive dealer on which to advertise? TV advertising wins the day when it comes to automotive advertising – and advertising in general. While the Internet is without question an ever-emerging force, there has never been anything quite as effective as an expertly crafted TV commercial for an automotive dealer.

Want proof that TV advertising wins? A recent report prepared by PricewaterhouseCoopers for the Interactive Advertising Bureau showed that, while online advertising brought in a record $42.7 million in 2013, it pales in comparison to the $74.5 billion sum spent on broadcast and cable TV.

Toyota Relocation from California to Texas Coming Soon

A Toyota relocation announcement could come any day. Many major media outlets say Toyota is set to move significant portions of its U.S. operations from their current location of Torrance, CA to suburban Dallas. Toyota employees are expected to be made aware of the move today.

This announcement is a major blow to California, currently the largest auto market in the country – and also the strongest proponent of environmentally friendly vehicles. It is rumored that most of those making the Toyota relocation move would come from the sales and marketing departments.

One of the most recent Chrysler Automotive Advertising techniques is interesting, indeed. In most cases, when a couple gets engaged they register at their favorite store, allowing friends and family members to purchase items they need or want; you know, things like the proverbial gravy boat, small household appliance or designer dish set.

But Chrysler lets these couples aim higher with “The Dodge Dart Wedding Registry,” a website allowing these duos to raise money toward the purchase of a Dart by letting people chip in for the car instead of the department-store items.
